Logan Sargeant's Path To the WEC/IMSA Now Tied To Hyundai GMR

As we've waited to see what will come of Sargeant's future since Williams decided to move on from his services back in August, we now know that the 23-year-old will in fact be joining forces with IDEC Sport in the European Le Mans Series for the 2025 season, linking up with Jamie Chadwick to pilot an LMP2 machine under the Genesis brand.
Now, we here at Motorsports Media Hub are in the business of connecting dots and putting substantial belief behind rumors that populate the racing world, and it's easy to see this move for Sargeant being a precursor to a future jump to the GMR-001 either in the World Endurance Championship, or in the IMSA WeatherTech series when the car launches in North America for the 2027 season.
It makes a ton of sense for Sargeant as this'll serve as his first venture into something that isn't Formula-based racing thus far in his career. He can build his prototype/sportscar experience racing in the ELMS with way less pressure than F1 or by starting right in the WEC, and he will do so with the support of the Genesis brand behind him. GMR announced their first two drivers for the program - Andre Lotterer and Pipo Derani - yet they made no announcement on who will be behind the wheel of Car No. 2, and again, it's easy to envision the plan of letting Sargeant develop in 2025 under their eye in a non-threatening role as he learns how to race prototypes before introducing him to the Hypercar grid with loads of anticipation and fan support behind the move.
Then, projecting out even further, when 2027 rolls around and the GMR-001 is ready for action in North America, perhaps Sargeant heads back from across the pond to pilot one of those cars on the IMSA grid. We'd be down for it.
Another side effect of the move is the fact that Sargeant will not be racing in IndyCar competition next season, which a month ago seemed like was something that could come together after his test with Meyer Shank Racing at Thermal Club. However, reports detail that advanced talks never materialized between the two parties about a potential seat for 2025. It would've been awesome to see Sargeant race in the series, and all of this is framed around assuming he actually would've wanted to come back to the US and do that, but you can't blame him for taking this opportunity with Hyundai GMR with the potential longterm opportunity to race this mean machine below. In this new era of endurance motorsports if something like that comes along your table you gotta take advantage.
