Sebastian Bourdais Lands Full-Time Seat In LMP2 with Tower Motorsports

Another big name is off the free agent market for 2025.

Announced Wednesday morning, Sebastian Bourdais has landed with Tower Motorsports for the upcoming IMSA season, as the 45-year-old FIA Platinum rated driver will pair up with John Farano to pilot the No. 8 LMP2 machine.

Bourdais is coming off his final season with Cadillac and Chip Ganassi Racing as they wrapped up their chapter with the V-Series.R GTP ride and the car moves back into the hands of Wayne Taylor Racing. Questions were asked as to what would happen to both Bourdais and Renger van der Zande with the changes incoming, and back in mid-October RVDZ announced his next move was to link up with Meyer Shank Racing as they make their return to IMSA, and we now know that Bourdais will shuffle to the LMP2 ranks with Tower.

Tower comes off a challenging season in which Farano finished 9th in the overall standings and didn't produce a win or podium finish. At the same time Tower aren't very far removed from their 2022 class championship in which Farano and Co. scored wins at Laguna Seca and Petit Le Mans to go along with a pair of P2 finishes at Watkins Glen and Road America.

The decision to move away from the top flight of prototype machines is sure to raise an eyebrow for fans who can barely imagine Bourdais not behind the wheel of a Cadillac or with Chip Ganassi. Yet with a majority of the seats already filled save for the Heart of Racing and whatever-the-hell-is-to-come with the Iron Lynx SC63, there really isn't a whole lot of space left on the GTP grid. The move also carries similar weight to what we've heard with Dane Cameron likely signing on with AO Racing to pilot 'Spike' next season.

Bourdais is one of the most experienced drivers in the entire IMSA paddock, and this venture into the LMP2 ranks will elevate the talent and competition for the entire class. If you add Cameron into the mix as well, we'll have some serious battles going down next season between a group of cars and teams where the differences are so razor thin that any team can emerge as winners on any given raceday.

What do you make of Tower Motorsports landing a giant fish like Bourdais?
