Lone Star Le Mans - WEC back at COTA and 3 things to watch

Image
Clear your schedules this Labor Day weekend cause we're going racing in the good ole U.S. of A. The WEC makes its return to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas this Sunday for the first time since the international cluster that was the 2020 season and Covid-19. This is a proper scheduling and an absolutely perfect placement on the calendar - a three-day weekend for all of us at the tail end of summer, and right before NFL football kicks off and dominates every following Sunday from then until February. Here are three quick things to keep an eye on as we prepare for Round 6 of the WEC season.  Weather Report Right Now Stinks So, the forecast looks pretty ass at the moment as of today - over 85% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday. We all know forecasts change and can change rapidly, and dealing with weather is part of the sport no doubt. But we're hoping for peak visual overload this weekend - the nearly 40 cars racing around 20 turns basked in the bright Texas sunshine

VIR - Paul Miller races back to 1st, Korthoff/Preston finally break through

Photo Credit - paulmillerracing.com The last sprint race of the IMSA season concluded down at Virginia International Raceway, with the GT-only field producing a pair of wins for two teams that will enjoy the sweet taste of victory for a while in the aftermath. In GTD Pro, Madison Snow and Brian Sellers of the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW finally broke through to claim their first victory of the season and their first as a Pro outfit. A year after blowing away the GTD competition with 5 overall wins, 7 trips to the podium and a championship in 2023, PMR's best result to this point this season had been a 3rd place finish in the 24 Hours of Daytona. Snow and Sellers were fast all weekend with a P1 finish in FP1 and starting from pole position in the race. They kept that pace throughout the 2 hour and 40 minutes, with the biggest challenges coming from the Heart of Racing and the No. 64 Ford GT3. More on those guys in a bit. With just two races to go in the year, and both being enduran

Tragedy for the Isotta Gang - IF withdraws from the WEC

Rest in Peace to the Isotta Fraschini LMH - we hardly knew ye'. News has dropped today out of the WEC, as multiple racing outlets (those with way more sources than I have) have reported that Isotta Fraschini - the manufacturer responsible for developing the Tipo 6C LMH prototype - has pulled the plug on their racing program, effective immediately. And yes by 'effective immediately' they mean 'will-not-race in the upcoming Lone Star Le Mans in just 10 days time.' According to those same reports, the bulk of the IF team is currently in Austin at COTA prepping for the race, so to have this news drop on them just has to be an atomic kick in the balls, a real Italian screw job. The belief is that IF is restructuring their entire motorsports division, and funding for the Hypercar program just isn't in the plans.   The Tipo 6 scored points strictly in the spirit and character departments this season (I mean who needs actual points in the table, anyway?) Quite easily th

Welcome to Motorsport Media Hub - The Golden Age for IMSA and the WEC

Hello and welcome to the beginning days of Motorsport Media Hub - your new home for all things related to the International Motor Sports Association and the World Endurance Championship. Primarily, this blog will cover the ins and outs of IMSA and the WEC, but we'll also find time for other  racing series across the globe, and additionally, if McLaren choose to again swap their drivers late-on in a Grand Prix in another effort to submarine the relationship between Lando, Oscar and the team, we might cover that too. IMSA and WEC are exploding in popularity right before our very eyes, and this blog will serve to highlight the news and happenings going down in both series due to the fact that there's so much overlap between the two; news that breaks in one oftentimes has a direct impact on the other (the Heart of Racing and the Valkyrie Hypercar program let's go!!!) In a few short years the quality of racing and growth of fandom in both IMSA and the WEC has skyrocketed, highli
