IMSA Flips BOP Upside Down For Long Beach Grand Prix
Quite literally every manufacturer in both the GTP and GTD classes received some short of adjustment to weight, power or energy output, with the biggest alterations coming to Porsche and Cadillac in the prototype class and Corvette, Ferrari and Lexus in the GT ranks.
Both Porsche and Cadillac received a weight reduction of 9 kgs - which is roughly 20 pounds of reduced weight via ballast. Additionally the Aston Martin Valkyire, which many felt was balanced out way too harshly in their debut at Sebring, will see a huge 10 kgs weight reduction for the race.
For the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, they'll see a MASSIVE weight reduction - 31 kg!!! - which will surely correct the race pace issues that the Pratt Miller Motorsports suffered from at Sebring. Right behind them are the Ferrari's (27 kg weight reduction) and 24 kg for the Lexus RC F GT3.
Love it or hate it, this is the reality of living in a BOP world/racing series. The powers that be will continue to tweak and adjust the cars as they run to try and keep the cars racing as close to similar lap times as possible. We've been through the chatter more than enough times to reserve giving an opinion the matter. This is what we signed up for in having multiple brands building prototype racing machines and others agreeing to homologate their road cars. It is what it is, and we just want to see some good ass racin' at the end of the day.
