Report: Kevin Magnussen To Join BMW M Team WRT For 2025 WEC Season

How's this for a little bit of a bombshell for your Saturday morning?

According to Endurance-Info.com out of France, Formula 1 veteran Kevin Magnussen is prepared to leave the series at the conclusion of the 2024 season and take his talents over to the WEC and a seat with BMW M Team WRT.

No official announcement from either the team, the FIA or Magnussen has been made to this point.

With plenty of changes coming to the F1 grid for 2025, we've known that Hulkenberg wasn't in the plans for Haas as they've already announced their new driver pairing of Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman, and fans have waited to see where else KMag could land; however as things currently stand there is only a single open seat left in the lineup, and that is the second seat on the Racing Bulls and there isn't any reason to believe he would be an option there.

If the news turns out to be true, Magnussen would qualify as arguably the most high-profile talent yet to depart the F1 stage and jump into this new era of endurance racing. The 32-year-old Dane has dipped his toes into the sportscar world previously, racing in the DPi days with Chip Ganassi Racing as well as taking a trip to the 2022 Le Mans race with LMP2 team High Class Racing. As a full-season commitment, the acquisition of Magnussen for their WEC program would serve as a massive coup for BMW as they aim to build on their first season of competition with the M Hybrid V8.

The move would also be a coming home of sorts for Magnussen as we all know of his father Jan's illustrious career in motorsports that spanned three decades and saw the Dane capture four class victories at Le Mans with Corvette Racing to go along with a Rolex 24 victory and two GTLM IMSA championships.

More to come...
