IMSA Moves Rolex Qualifying To Thursday of Race Week

Reversing course from a few years ago, IMSA announced that they've moved qualifying for the Rolex 24 back to race weekend, bumping the sessions off of the previous Sunday at the Roar Before the 24.

The move comes as IMSA aim to space out extra time needed for testing of the GT classes, as well as accommodating for the in-coming implementation of torque sensors for all GT cars. In addition, IMSA will again hold practice for their Targeted Performance Testing, which was introduced last season and requires the manufacturers and teams to nominate drivers for each car in order to refine the Balance of Performance metrics across the board.

24 qualifying will go down at 2:10pm on Thursday.

The new schedule will see practice sessions split across the Roar weekend, as well as two VP  Racing SportsCar Challenge races to open the season. Teams across the four classes will take to the track for some of the last practice sessions of the preseason before the real thing begins on Saturday January 25. A combined total of 10+ hours of practice time will be split across seven events in the morning, afternoon and evening. There are seven total sessions set for the weekend - two on Friday at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, three on Saturday at 11:15 AM, 3:10 PM, and 6:30 PM, and then two more on Sunday at 9:45 AM and 2:30 PM.
