Trio of Invites To Le Mans Secured For 2025
As the dust settled on the madness that was the last hour of Petit Le Mans this past weekend in Atlanta, more than just championship battles were settled as the final standings fell into place.
Three tickets to Le Mans were punched once the 10th hour of racing concluded, and since we have no post-race penalties in the aftermath to worry about, we know the three teams that will be taking the trip over to France come next June for the 93rd running of the historic endurance race on June 14, 2025.
Starting up top, the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsports 963 punched their ticket by way of winning the GTP title, meaning that PPM will have three 963s on the grid for the third-straight year. If things go the right way just a few weekends from now on November 2, Penske's operation will go into Le Mans in 2025 as the dual IMSA and WEC champions, needing then just a Le Mans victory to totally Thanos the endurance racing world and complete their version of an Infinity Gauntlet.
For the LMP2 class, the Inter Europol guys came out on top with a dual victory of their own, as they secured the class championship with a P4 class finish as well as the Jim Trueman Award, earning their place on the Le Mans grid. The crew will return to the track that saw them pull off the textbook definition of what an underdog story is all about when they won their class in 2023 because - as you remember - Inter Europol are full-time Polish bakers on the side to their race car program.
As for GTD, it was AWA Racing that pulled out the victory by way of a P12 class finish - beating out Inception Racing as well as Gradient Racing to secure their invite to the Circuit de Le Sarthe. We covered it last week with a preview of what was on the line for these teams, and for AWA their season started off as rocky as you could be when they barely rolled out of pit lane at the start of the Rolex. From that point to a Bob Akin Cup title is a pretty remarkable turn around, and we'll never say no to more Corvette's on the track at Le Mans.
