Penalized - Heart of Racing stripped of P2 finish at VIR

A few weeks after the fact, IMSA announced Monday that the Heart of Racing has been stripped of their second place finish at VIR back in August.

The No. 27 AM Vantage driven by Roman de Angelis and Zach Robichon raced to a P2 finish behind Korthoff/Preston Motorsports, but in the aftermath of the race a technical inspection from IMSA stewards found that the car used a non-homolgated part or parts.

IMSAs initial report did not specify the infraction, yet Aston Martin did release a statement detailing a "clerical error in relation to labelling of an AMR homologated damper mount."

A $10,000 fine was also slapped on Aston Martin.

With the No. 27 getting the boot to the back of the field, it's Forte Racing and the No. 78 Lamborghini that now assumes second place in the results, while Philp Ellis and Russell Ward of the No. 57 Mercedes jump up to P3 and add to their already staggering point total this season.

Where does this leave HoR in the standings? The loss of 150 points have shuffled them from fifth to seventh in GTD, where they now sit behind the aforementioned Forte Racing.

It's definitely a kick in the balls for the team, and we'll give them the benefit of the doubt that a lack of communication and/or lapse of judgement that lead to the penalty. At the same time, this is racing and this is sports, and every team is always trying to find an advantage wherever it might come from. The stewards have been on top of it recently with catching any infractions that may or may not be present on cars, and although this isn't anywhere close to the scale of the absolute donkeymess that we saw coming out of the Rolex the last two seasons, you better be careful as hell if you're thinking of slipping an unauthorized part or part to your racecar and testing the very, very scrutinizing eye of The Stewards.
