Indy Car Champ Alex Palou joins Lone Star Racing for ICGT Indy 8 Hours

Reigning Indy Car champion Alex Palou is getting behind the wheel of a GT machine.

The announcement, made this morning by SRO, will see the three-time champ link up with Lone Star Racing for the season finale of the Intercontinental GT Challenge at the Indianapolis 8 Hours, which goes down next weekend on Saturday October 5. And, because SRO are the balls and make all of their content super easy to watch, the race will be streamed live for free on their YouTube channel.

Palou will join the Mercedes factory duo of Fabian Schiller and Luca Stolz as they look to sneak past a few other teams ahead of them and secure a world title with just the one race remaining.

Palou ins't a total stranger to GT racing as he last took a spin in the Super GT circuit in Japan back in 2019, logging seven total races behind the wheel. He's also joined forces with Cadillac the last two times out at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and joined Earl Bamber and Alex Lynn as the third man in for in Le Mans back in June.

The number of teams running in the ICGT are absolutely stacked with talent and pedigree, and it'll be interesting to see what Palou can contribute to one of the few US-based teams in Lone Star Racing. Go earn that championship-winning victory, LOOONE STARRRR!

Also, for those of you that maybe haven't caught a ton of the ICGT recently, stop that immediately. You have just this final race to right all of your wrongs. Everyone of course knows that endurance racing is the best racing, and nobody does it better than the ICGT. Their 2024 schedule was awesome...
  • Bathurst 12 Hours, Australia -  Feb. 16 - 18
  • Nurburgring 24 Hours, Germany - May 30 - June 2 (the race was red flagged after only 7.5 hours of racing due to Silent Hill-levels of fog around the entire track)
  • 24 Hours of Spa, Belgium - June 27 - 30
  • Indy 8 Hours, USA - Oct. 4 - 6
...And in 2025 they've added to the schedule by way of the Suzuka 1000km, marking their return to Japan for the first time in five years.
  • Bathurst 12 Hours, Australia - Jan. 31 - Feb. 2
  • Nurburgring 24 Hours, Germany - June 19 - 22
  • 24 Hours of Spa, Belgium - June 26 - 29
  • Suzuki 1000km, Japan - September 12 - 14
  • Indianapolis 8 Hours, USA - October 16-1
If we're keeping track of the schedule, yes this does mean that we will be experiencing the '2025 78 Hours of June' next season with Le Mans on June 15,  the N24 on June 21, the Shalen's Six Hours of the Glen on June 22, and the Spa 24 Hours on June 29. Phew. That is an absolute gauntlet of a stretch where many B-12 energy pills will be consumed and many, many more beers will be had. Start preparing now people.
